The Calming Art of Andrew Sutherland
This art perfectly fits my mood today. I am absorbed, like stepping into a warm lagoon, by the artworks of Andrew Sutherland. The South African artist finds his muse in wanderlust, drawing from human encounters with the natural world.
I love the calm that's conveyed with the loose brush strokes, and that sense of movement. The effect to the viewer is one of refreshment, awe at the natural world even, and of glimpsing a moment that isn't fully containable, leaving just an impression.
Sutherland's media of choice varies, exploring watercolours, brush pens, acrylic, oil, ink, charcoal - the list goes on. But his signature style absorbs these mediums and shines through with a bold but light touch.
