Timeless San Sebastian Apartment
Today I am appreciating the beauty of this San Sebastian Spanish apartment. Owned by architects Jose Gabriel and Calparsoro Gorritxo and designed with the late Andrée Putman - now about 10 years ago. This space just doesn't date. The couple approached Putman when she was in her eighties on the off chance she may be interested in the project, to their surprise she was. The apartment to me has the understated glamour of the 1930s, perhaps its the materials used and the curved glass wall. The apartment was gutted and Putman spent time in the spaces understanding the light and form. Much of the furniture is built in and I think that is what helps characterise this home. The colour pallet is restrained with the character and style coming from the shape and line of the materials used. Its a sophisticated space that I think Agatha Christie's Poirot would feel quite at home in it. There is a peace here and a certainty that I like. A beautiful space wel...
