Design Debate

This simply beautiful piece of design was created by Gregory Beson , a New York based creative, as part of the 'In Good Company' exhibition. Fashioned from 76 bricks of Himalayan pink salt. Though there is plenty of hype about this natural material and its health benefits little science backs the claims, visually though no one can doubt its impact.  The blocks were carved from a cave in Northern Pakistan, the Salt Chair is all about the material. In Besson's bio he describes what inspires him as " the poetics of material culture...a chipped favourite mug, the joinery and materiality of an artefact, a well worn door knob. I search for depth and richness to bring joy, connection and knowledge to all who interface with my work". It's a lovely material, changing with the light. The whole ' In Good Company ' exhibition is worth seeking out, filled with wonderfully fresh expressions of the every day. 

I love any excuse to draw and I do often get the opportunity for our c lients. Being based in beautiful Cornwall makes an easy subject, one I never tire of.  Our clients Cornish Horizons have a stunning portfolio of holiday cottages based up and down our fair county, they asked if we could draw them some maps of where their offices are based to hand out to customers.  I needed to make sure these maps could actually be useful as well as pretty to look at so I marked on key roads and illustrated landmarks. Dotted with drawings and full of colour and texture, hopefully conjuring that holiday feel. They will be used as print-outs in welcome packs and available to download at the Cornish Horizons website.  We have done some really lovely projects with this client, creating tote bags, brochures, magazines, greetings cards, email marketing - even cookies and a fairground-style selfie frame!
