Snow in Art

Sitting in our little wooden studio, I look out and see snow falling. This is Cornwall, which means it is really only teasing us. So calming watching the clumps descend. It put me in the mood for snow - proper snow - and how it is captured in art. Here are a few I found that I love.

I love the contrast that can be created with a liberal helping of white against a stary grey sky. This woodblock print is by Kawase Hasui and dates from 1931  

Pennine Railway by Simon Palmer looks so plump and full. The shadows in the snow are that vibrant lilac.

This painting by David Barnes uses silhouette to full effect.
