Salt Chair

This simply beautiful piece of design was created by Gregory Beson, a New York based creative, as part of the 'In Good Company' exhibition. Fashioned from 76 bricks of Himalayan pink salt. Though there is plenty of hype about this natural material and its health benefits little science backs the claims, visually though no one can doubt its impact. 

The blocks were carved from a cave in Northern Pakistan, the Salt Chair is all about the material. In Besson's bio he describes what inspires him as "the poetics of material culture...a chipped favourite mug, the joinery and materiality of an artefact, a well worn door knob. I search for depth and richness to bring joy, connection and knowledge to all who interface with my work".

It's a lovely material, changing with the light. The whole 'In Good Company' exhibition is worth seeking out, filled with wonderfully fresh expressions of the every day.
