Chloe Spring / Summer 2015

Image
I am in love with this new collection. The Chloe Spring / Summer 2015 story perfectly captures the carefree sunshine dream of Seventies fashion. Models Caroline Trentini and Eniko Mihalik seem to embody the endless summer I always associate with that decade. The dresses themselves billow beautifully in the wind, with a touch of the wild west in structured denim. Coupled with equally elegant horses all out for a stroll on a golden beach.  The behind the scenes photos are just as beautiful. A little bit of sunshine on quite a dreary January day is just what I needed!  Found on My Bougeotte .

Edwin La Dell

Image
Mason's Farm Today I thought I would share some work by artist Edwin La Dell. A British painter, printmaker, lithographer and illustrator from 1914 - 1970. Sedbergh School Self Portrait I love how La Dell uses colour generously and thoughtfully. He was head of Printmaking at the Royal College of Art in the 1960s, as well as an official war artist during the Second World War, creating public murals and camouflage. His lithographs for the coronation for Queen Elizabeth II are quite famous, but my discovery of his works is relatively new. That is one of the great things about the internet, you can stumble across a real gem and within minutes be introduced to a new favourite, all before your first cup of tea!  Hastings The Tower of London I hope you enjoy his works too, a little bit of colour can a long way on a winter's day. People in glass houses

Image
On a chilly January day what am I dreaming of? A glass house nestled in snow. Not perhaps the cosy atmosphere one would aspect but completely beautiful. This glass house by architects Santambrogiomilano would only really work if you were an exhibitionist, or if you lived somewhere really private. The home owner can achieve privacy at the touch of a button though, the glass panels become opaque.  The glass structure is far from fragile, strengthened and toughened so the walls can withstand the weight of heavy snow. The glass walls heat up to make this piece of sculpture a comfortable home. But could you live in such an environment? Pretty much every piece of furniture is made from glass, apart from the bed, thankfully. Very fairytale. I like the idea that the outside is your wallpaper and the weather would be your entertainment. I'd love to know what you think.

Perfect prints

Image
I haven't done nearly as much traveling as I would like to, but I do love it. Which is strange as I always get ill, can't handle the heat and get lost easily! I guess I like the adventure. Choosing what clothes to take is can be tricky. Light-weight but beautiful and practical can be challenging. In hotter climates like last year when I visited Morocco and a few years ago when I travelled around India, proved quite a challenge.  Well today I came across Matter , just beautiful tailoring in soft natural fabric and I just love the prints. Taking inspiration from around the world while using traditional methods and reinventing traveler style, I like it.  Cool and comfortable but still very chic.

Fantasy rooms on a teeny tiny scale

Image
A Night in the Studio by Ina Hyun K Shin Home is Bear The Heart is by Mister Peebles The V&A Museum of Childhood invited 19 London based designers to imagine their dream room. The limitations were a 30 cm box, and the brief was to create their dream room in miniature, reflecting the idea of 'ideal' or 'fantasy' rooms for an exhibition of doll's houses dating from 1712 to 2001. Bermondsey Studio by East London Furniture, Reuben Le Prevost and Jessica Sutton I Always Dreamed of an Underwater Aquarium Bathroom by Katy Christianson "It could be fantastical, whimsical, aspirational or technological, it just had to be small!" Alice Sage the curator told Dezeen .  If You Don't Know Where You Are Going, Any Road Will Get You There by Pearson Lloyd If a Budgie Dreamed of Being a Magpie by Bethan Laura Wood I love how some these designers have taken he brief quite literally, really cool dream rooms that kids would love, w...

What 100 years of beauty looks like

Image
Creative agency The Cut have condensed 100 years of hair and make-up styles into a 1 minute video. Quite fascinating seeing the trends move from cheeky flapper to big hair eighties and their take on the styles of 2010.  What I love about the time we live in is that we can take advantage of the wealth of visual history that comes before us and weave this inspiration into our everyday looks.  What do you think? Have they nailed it? Found at Design Boom .

Synthesis - colour sculptures that evoke the deep by Tom Price

Image
I love everything about these beautiful sculptures from Tom Price . The colours produced have such depth, like exploring the depths of the ocean or a corner of the galaxy.  He starts by considering his materials. Selecting two contrasting components, resin and tar, one black and heavy the other clear and liquid, he allows them to wrestle it out to become a single entity.  In Synthesis, his new body of work exhibited in Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City which is running until January 2015, Price is interested in the untapped potential of familiar materials, and encourages them to react in unfamiliar ways.  What happens is the tar and resin vie for space. The tar heats and expands searching for gaps and routes and as it spreads depths of colour come forth and something quite special is created. Tom Price told Yellow Trace : "I was aware of the tendency for resin to form small fractures when mixed incorrectly, but what we uncovered wen...
